Itinerary Details
On the way to Sari from Dehradun, your drive to the trek destination will take around eight to ten hours including a comfortably timed break for breakfast and lunch. The distance of the whole journey from Dehradun to Sari is around 231 Kms journey and it will take approximately 8-10 hours to reach Sari via road. The 8-10 hours journey will be exhausting but throughout the trail, you will never run out of alluring views, so don’t sleep as you might miss out on a view that you will cherish forever. We will come across many confluences of rivers and spectacular landscapes all along the drive.
Once we reach Sari, it will mark the end of day 1 on this trek to Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek. We will take a rest and stay overnight. Dinner will be served at night and in order to have an ample amount of rest, we will suggest you sleep early.
The next step on the way to Deoriatal Chandrashila Trek is 3 kilometers from Sari to Deoriatal. Deoriatal is situated at an altitude of 7,800 feet and it takes around 3 hours to reach here from Sankri. The trail passes through dense rhododendron forests, maple trees, few streams and finally, opens out to beautiful meadows. Although the journey starts from Haridwar, the actual trek commences from Sankri village. After having an early start to the day with a healthy and delicious breakfast, you will commence your trek towards Deoriatal.
After having breakfast, the amazing trek will begin and will be around 3 km long. You can have a small sightseeing tour around the campsite if you wish. Once you start your trek, you can see the reflection of amazing surroundings in the crystal clear lake. Therefore it is often called ‘two worlds at one place’. Your trek to Deoriatal will be lined by the holy rivers Ganga and Alaknanda.
The trail is considered to be easy with a combination of ascent and descent. A well-organised trail of rocks will open you to the elegant view of the Chandrashila summit. From here, the Tungnath temple looks like a speck of colour. There are almost no water sources throughout the 3 km walk. So, make sure you have enough reserve water in your bottles to meet the water demand of your body. This place is considered to be a paradise for nature lovers and bird watchers. The chirping of the birds and blossoming of the flora will take you on a journey that you never thought existed while living your rich city life. A warm and delicious lunch will be served when we shall reach the Deoriatal campsite by the lake.
We will be trekking to Chopta Rohini Bugyal on the third day. This trek is about 15 Kms and takes approximately 7-8 hours. Some local birds and deer might be seen during this trek along with majestic ice-capped mountains.
The trail is filled with small shrines that show up in the greenery of the yellow and red flags tied on it. Thereafter, we have to pass a clearing in the forest that is aligned with the scarlets blossoming out in the open. After this, we will be directly ascending the path that leads to Rohini Bugyal and Chopta. The ascent makes way for a level of land and some hard uphill hike. From here, you can get an elegant view of the Chandrashila peak on the other end of the forest cavity. Once you cross the level land, you will again be introduced to the forest-lined up with old oak and maple trees along with the rhododendrons. This region is actually a part of the Kedarnath sanctuary and if you are lucky enough, you can witness the red fox and other wildlings. Another 25 minutes of hiking will take us to Bhadawal Temple after which the descending meadows open up to Rohini Bugyal.
As you move along, you will find a stream where you can replenish your water needs. A little trek upwards where the meadows seem to start will open up to a bunch of huts. Here, you can find the local shepherds with their sheep. A little ahead, we will reach our campsite at the Chopta village. Once we reach the campsite we will stay overnight at Chopta. Dinner will be served at the campsite.
We will trek from Chopta to Tungnath and Chandrashilla peak on this day. This trek will be 8 Kms and usually takes 6-7 hours. Enjoy the mountain vegetation and trees en route. Overnight stay will be at Chopta.
We shall start our day as early as possible. After a delicious breakfast, we will set out on the journey to Chandrashila top from Chopta. We can witness the beautiful sunrise from the Tungnath top. The trail from Chopta to the Tungnath Temple runs on a well-defined concrete bounded path. The trail will be a little tougher today with challenging steep climbs. During winter, you will find a thick layer of snow covering the whole trail. There are no water points throughout the trail. So, make sure you carry a sufficient amount of water with yourself. After crossing the steep slope, you will reach the summit of the Chandrashila peak. Here, you can get a 360-degree view of the Kumaon and Garhwal mountain ranges with snow-clad mountains in the entire vicinity. The renowned peaks consist of – Nanda Devi, Kedar Dome, Trishul, Dronagiri and Nanda Ghunti. You can also witness the glimpses of Gangotri and Thalay Sagar right at the edge
You will feel like you are in heaven being surrounded by these many mountain peaks in the vicinity. We will spend some time embracing the beauty of the setting and glorifying the magnificence of nature. After this, we will make our way back to the Chopta base camp and this will mark the end of the longest and the most hectic day of our trek. So, we will have dinner at the campsite and proceed to sleep as soon as possible without incorporating any further delay.
After breakfast, all you have to do is drive to Dehradun.

By Air
Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport to Dehradun and is easily accessible, it is just
25 km away from the city. Daily flights from New Delhi are available to this airport. You
will have to take a bus or a cab to reach Sari.
By Train
Dehradun railway station. Overnight trains that hail from Delhi are Nandadevi Express and
Dehradun Express. People often prefer railways over airways because with trains you get to
see the landscape in its full glory, it is also cheaper and you will definitely enjoy your
way till Dehradun. You will have to take a bus or a cab to reach Sari.
By Road
Regular bus service is available from Delhi ISBT Kashmere Gate which plies government buses
that are safe and you can rely on them more than the private buses. You will have to take a
